Best Place to Study Medicine Abroad – List of Medical Universities in Ukraine

Ukraine is known as the educational hub in Europe. Ukraine has big cities comprising of Kiev, Zaprozhye, Dnepropertrovsk, Lviv and Odessa in which more than 800 institutions for higher education is there .These many institutions enable students with the choice for studies in various courses. There are six types of Higher education institutions in Ukraine; each awarded a certain level of accreditation known as universities, academies and conservatories. Ukraine has favourable climatic conditions owing to the seas. Ukraine spends nearly 6.3% of its GDP on education, highest spending among the OCED countries. The remuneration to the teachers is also high as compared to the national wage in Ukraine.The education system of Ukraine is continuously changing as per the requirements of time.

The students get text books from University Library. They have to spend on stationery, which is very cheap. The fooding is very cheap in Ukraine.  The staying facilities are also granted to the students at subsidized rates. The students of Ukraine are granted scholarships which reduce the cost of studies. The students are allowed to do part time Jobs to sustain their living. 

The Universities provide extra recreational facilities in the campus to the student, which turns out to be cost effective to them. The Universities being non profit bodies charge low fee from the students. The fee structure being low attracts large number of International students. The resident students of Ukraine are assisted with scholarships depending upon the academic performance. However UMEC gives scholarships to students form second year onwards who provide reference students for further studies in Ukraine to the extent of entire fee depending upon the number of students joining based on his or her reference. 

Most popular Medical Courses offered by various Universities of Ukraine:


  • Medicine: duration of the medical course is 6 years; degree awarded is doctor of medicine (MD or MBBS);
  • Dental: duration of the dental course is 5 years; degree awarded is bachelor of dentistry (BDS);
  • Pediatrics: duration of the course is 6 years; degree awarded is doctor of medicine (pediatrician);
  • Nursing: duration of the course is 2 years; degree awarded is bachelor of nursing;
  • Dental orthopedic: duration of the course is 2 years; degree awarded is bachelor of dental orthopedic;
  • Post graduate studies: duration of the study is 2-3 years.

Students completing the medical degrees in Ukraine are eligible to apply for International Licensing exams like USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), MCI Screening Test and all other licensing exams around the world.
Admissions are carried on first come serves basis. Students fulfilling the requirements get admissions from 1st July to 1st October of every year. Students need to clear entrance exams along with the past performance play a major role in the admission, thereby making the admission process selective.
